Sports Massage by Emma Scrivin, Level 4 Member of the Sports Massage Association (www.emmascrivin.co.uk)

Sports Massage is the manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, ligaments and tendons.  It is a deep tissue treatment that is tailored to each individual's needs to help alleviate stress and tension that builds up in the body during a wide range of physical activities, such as sports participation, exercising, using a computer, driving and sitting or walking with poor posture.

Many people have sports massage to help with muscular problems and you do not need to be a sports performer.  The treatment can help relieve many day to day problems that everyone experiences and beneficial results can be achieved for anyone.

Sports Massage can be helpful for work related tension, poor posture, muscular imbalances, general relaxation, poor circulation and aches & pains.

If you are a sports performer, of any level, a sports specific massage can be beneficial at various stages of participation / to help with the conditioning / training phase, pre competition, inter competition, post competition, post travel, injury prevention & injury recovery.

Treatments are available for a duration of 30, 60 or 90 minutes and the reason for your appointment will dictate the time required.

The initial assessment and treatment will involve asking about your medical history and current problem to establish and inform you what the aims and progress of the treatment will be.  Your current lifestyle will be discussed to help identify and provide advice on how to modify any factors that could be causing stress, pain or tension. If it is felt that a Sports Massage would not be the best treatment for you advice on an alternative action will be provided.

Sports Massage is invigorating, deeply stimulating and re-energising, but people often feel deeply relaxed after a treatment.  Emma will continually communicate with you to ensure the treatment is suitable and meets your needs.

Treatments are available for a duration of 30, 60 or 90 minutes and the reason for your appointment will dictate the time required.

Generally for the first visit I recommend a 75 minute session which includes a 15 minute consultation and 60 minute treatment.  This can then be adapted accordingly for any subsequent appointments.
